An Affectionate Farewell

After a little more than two years, this will be my last post for “Always Austen.” The blog is coming to an end. For two years I’ve learned and enjoyed so much content from blog owner Regina Jeffers and the rest of the authors who participate. There’s a mind-blowing collection of experience, scholarship, and gifted writing here, and it has been an honor to be associated with this group. There are still many fine posts to come from other authors, so be certain to check in often to follow your favorites.

I will be moving off in a slightly different direction, returning to volunteer with Maryland HEARS, an outgrowth of the program, Baltimore HEARS, which took a close and careful look at the problem of age-related hearing loss among people who are not well covered for the expense of hearing health and care. After a hiatus of several years mainly due to COVID, the program had blossomed out from Baltimore to several areas of Maryland. I am delighted to be taking up my favorite role as a teacher, and we are just getting started.

I will look forward enormously to the novels soon to be published by Regina and by the many gifted authors who have been posting here. You can be certain that if you pick up a book by any one of these folks, you’re in for a treat. It will be well constructed, well written, well edited and thoroughly documented. I may have another book lurking at the back of my mind. If that’s the case, it will be my pleasure to share it with you.

For now, though, my goodbye message will be one I’ve used for years: Get your hearing checked. If your family includes elderly relatives, encourage them to get their hearing checked. Take advantage of resources that can help you stay in touch with life and love!
