Great blog.
The trouble with Edward is, he simply lacks dash. And Austen readers love dashing. Poor guy!!!! Here we have ideal husband material: intelligent, thoughtful, ethical, caring, self-sacrificing (as you point out), and even quietly funny (his best line? ‘Well then, I guess that Mr Willoughby hunts.’) Still dissed by every Austen website just because he lacks dash. Only Edmund Bertram is more roundly abused.
My advice to these love-lorn Darcy fanciers is, before you flick left on the Edwards of today on that dating ap… think harder!

I admire Eleanor Dashwood too! She is a smart cookie! I think too Edward needs a little dash and he needs to stand up and fight for what he wants! Although loyalty is a good thing too! I guess we do need to look closer at the Edwards of this world!

He does fight at the end for Elinor, but he’s really got no one to fight. His mother won’t change, unfortuntely.
